Sergei Bubka of the Soviet Union easily won the pole vault at a meet in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia.
Bubka, who cleared 19 feet 8 inches, missed setting his 26th world record, clipping the bar with his heel on an attempt at 19-11 1/4. Bubka holds the indoor record of 20-1 and the outdoor mark of 19-11.
