A bank robber made his getaway Tuesday by boarding an RTD bus and presenting the driver with discount fare coupons, police said.
Witnesses saw him leave California Federal Bank at 270 N. Vermont Ave. after the 1:20 p.m. holdup, said Los Angeles Police Detective Jimmy Grayson. “He had a large amount of discount coupons to ride the RTD buses,” Grayson said. “He took an undetermined amount of cash from the bank and got on the southbound Line 204.”
At the bank, the robber stood in line until a teller became available, then demanded cash. It was unknown if he carried a gun, Grayson said. Patrol units and a helicopter searched the area, but were unable to find him.
