Supervisors Extend ‘Truce’ With Malibu
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday extended its “sewer truce” with Malibu for another 180 days to give officials of the new city time to hire a consultant to assess its waste water needs.
The board, which has been locked in litigation for years with residents of Malibu who oppose a proposed regional sewer, suspended the county’s preliminary work on the project for 90 days on March 12. Disagreement among residents of Malibu on what to do with waste water has slowed formulation of a consensus. The Malibu City Council was expected to vote Tuesday night on hiring a consultant.
Malibu’s residents disagree on the size of the project, which they fear could fuel development in their community. The motion introduced by Supervisor Ed Edelman and unanimously approved by the board calls for the county to suspend its activities to receive regulatory approval for the project for 180 days.
