New Women’s Basketball Coach Hired
Al Silver, an assistant college men’s basketball coach for 14 years, will become the third Pierce College women’s basketball coach in the past two months, Silver confirmed Monday.
Rob Di Muro, who coached Pierce for two seasons, resigned April 11 and was replaced by George Corisis in early May. Corisis, who coached girls’ basketball at Palmdale High, has decided not to take the Pierce position because of travel difficulties and a desire to stay with his Palmdale team.
Silver, 46, said he worked as a volunteer assistant for then-Pierce Coach Denny Crum in the 1960s, but has not coached since 1981 and has not coached women. He is the chairman of the physical education department at Pacoima Junior High.
