The City Council has unanimously approved funding for a $710,000 project to widen and repave Katella Avenue.
Under the plan approved last week, Katella Avenue will be widened to allow a right-turn lane at Tustin Street, and a raised median will be constructed on Katella from Tustin to the on-ramp of the Costa Mesa Freeway. The improvements also will include repaving Katella from Tustin to Sacramento Street.
The project was awarded to R.J. Noble Co. of Orange, the lowest of eight bidders. The company submitted a bid of $709,516. Construction is expected to begin June 17 and should be completed in two to four months, a city civil engineer said.
