Capistrano Valley Students Offer Theories on Evolution-Creation Flap

After reading (Capistrano Valley High teacher) Jim Corbett’s Commentary (“Deviating From the Curriculum Guide Is Wrong,” May 21) on the classroom controversy at Capistrano Valley High School, I find myself in total agreement.
I am a senior at Capo Valley and former student of Peloza’s. What he is doing is a clear violation of the Establishment clause of the Constitution. He taught evolution as a joke and claimed Christianity to be fact to his students. As a teacher, he was violating the rights of his students and undermining their educational values.
Based on observable facts, scientists have come to the theory of evolution. If this “abrupt appearance” could be based on observable facts, then it would be an acceptable scientific theory, but it is not.
If Peloza was concerned with his students’ educational well-being, he would teach them science and reason, not faith and religion that belong in church.
