A task force has recommended that Cal State Long Beach drop or greatly reduce its football program by 1992 as part of $13 million in university budget cuts. A similar proposal four years ago was tabled when boosters raised $300,000 to save the program.
A university spokesman said a decision is not expected until fall.
Long Beach recently dropped its men’s tennis and men’s and women’s swimming programs and said that the men’s golf team will continue only if it can be supported entirely by private donations.
