Childhood in America

After listening to the Abrams (May 12) family whine about the stress that changes in society have wrought, I was only struck by one thing--that society has changed so much that two parents would shamelessly tell a national newspaper that they didn’t feel like it was their responsibility to consistently supervise their children’s homework or school attendance. And then they expect us to join them in blaming societal changes for the difficulties their children are experiencing.
The Abrams children have learned that their parents don’t care enough to follow up on their activities. And since their parents don’t care, they don’t either.
