MOORPARK : Welcome Home for Troops Planned
The public will have an opportunity to celebrate Memorial Day weekend with troops just back from the Persian Gulf at a welcome home party at Bitterroot Ranch today.
The party “gives people a chance to mix with the guys who just came back,†Barry Weinstein, one of the event’s organizers, said.
Weinstein said he expects at least two busloads of sailors who just returned to Port Hueneme or Point Mugu from the Gulf War, as well as other armed services members.
The party at the 150-acre horse ranch will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will feature an all-you-can-eat lunch of barbecue sandwiches and soft drinks, country music by the Rhys McGovern band and a horse show with such events as barrel racing.
Admission is free to members of the armed forces returning from the Gulf War. For the public, the cost will be $10 per person. Bitterroot Ranch is just east of Moorpark at 15190 Tierra Rejada Road.
