‘Deals Being Cut’

I am not easily provoked into writing letters, however to hear Norman Jacobson tell it (“Apartment Hunters, Note: There Are Deals Being Cut,†Letters, April 28), he and all the other rich landholders are abruptly reforming their ways, and out of the kindness of their hearts are returning to us less fortunate, the spoils they so took for so long a time.

If you landlords are serious, Mr. Jacobson, how about some real sharing of your wealth? For years, you have catapulted land values and rents into the heavens of your pockets, all without flinching and never with the need to complain in letters to the editor. How about letting us in on what those earlier years brought?

But what do we get instead? A “5%-6% reduction†just so you can fill the building; a “$300 credit†which is nothing more than a bribe to stay there for one year. But best of all, we get a real big deal--the use of a refrigerator FREE, even if it is only “for a specified time.â€

Rather than talk about capital outlays that benefit YOU in the long run, how about looking for real ways to help some of US right now? Remember: It’s not “look and ye shall find,†it’s “what goes around comes around.â€
