Dealing With Discrimination

The statistics are old hat; falling “victim” to reverse discrimination is, as my 6-year-old son commonly says, “the pits,” and no doubt Bakke’s complaint had merit.
I am a 42-year-old Chicano of El Sereno vintage, a ’74 UC Davis School of Law and ’71 UCLA graduate. Waiting day by day for California Bar exam results has been and may very well continue to be my struggle. I believe that it is better to regret the things I have tried than to regret the things I have not tried, hence I don’t quit. What angers me most, is when I sense and hear the sting of “if you were not Mexican, etc.”
Getting through the system is work. “They turned me down because I was white” is an excuse for those who elect to quit and those who regret the things they have not tried.
One thing is certain--during my lifetime we must prove our worth to the ever so prevalent cry of those pleading “reverse discrimination.”
