Pedro da Silva of Oregon set a meet record of 17- 3/4 in the pole vault in successfully defending his men’s decathlon title at the Pacific 10 Conference track and field championships in Tempe, Ariz.
The old Pac-10 pole vault record was 16-2 3/4. Da Silva compiled 7,782 total points.
In the women’s heptathlon, UCLA’s Tonya Sedwick won only one of three events Tuesday night but still earned the title with 5,548 points.
