Rich Corso, coach of the Harvard Water Polo Foundation and the water polo team at Harvard High, has been named head coach of the Canadian national water polo team.
Corso, 37, an assistant coach for the silver-medal-winning 1984 U.S. Olympic team, has directed the Harvard Water Polo Foundation to three national titles in the past four years.
“The next 15 months are a critical period for Canadian water polo,” Corso said. “Our team goal is to medal at the Pan American Games and qualify for the Olympic Games.”
Canada last appeared in the Olympic Games in 1984 when it finished 10th. Canada placed 13th in the recent World Championships.
The Pan American Games will be held in August in Havana.
Corso said he will remain at Harvard High as a physical education teacher and coach of the school team and that the Canadian team will spend much of its time training in the Los Angeles area.
