California Lutheran University has been awarded a $439,100 matching grant from an East Coast Lutheran fraternal organization to renovate a campus dorm and expand the campus ministry program.
The Thousand Oaks university is one of 49 Lutheran schools nationwide to be awarded a Lutheran Brotherhood challenge grant. Cal Lutheran will be required to raise a minimum of $1 for each dollar of the grant over the next five years, said Della Greenlee, director of grants for the university.
The grant provides $175,000 for the dorm renovation, and $264,100 will go into an endowment fund to expand the campus ministry program with a second part-time pastor.
Lutheran Brotherhood is a fraternal benefit society based in Minneapolis. The grant to Cal Lutheran is part of a new charitable program of the society that will provide $13.4 million to Lutheran colleges, universities and Bible schools.
