Key Mexican Stock Index Has Record High
MEXICO CITY — The Mexican stock market’s key index closed above the 1,000 mark for the first time Monday, continuing a red-hot run that began last year.
The 39-stock Bolsa index rose 18.63 points to a record 1,008.47, fueled by a surge in Telefonos de Mexico, the country’s phone company. Telefonos, known as TelMex, jumped 400 pesos to 10,400 pesos.
TelMex on Monday announced a new stock sale. An issued priced at $27.25 will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange, representing 20 shares of a new “series L†stock that will trade in Mexico.
TelMex already trades in the United States on the NASDAQ system (the supplemental list, not the National Market System). The NASDAQ TelMex shares closed at $3.50 on Monday, up 16 cents.
