COLLEGE DIVISION NOTES : Chapman Softball Team Seeded Second in NCAA West Regionals

Despite defeating No. 1-ranked Portland State in the semifinals of the Sonoma State tournament Sunday, Chapman’s softball team was named second to top-seeded Portland State in the NCAA West Regional playoffs.
The Panthers (46-11), who won their first California Collegiate Athletic Assn. title and were ranked No. 2 in the final Division II poll, will open the double-elimination tournament Saturday with a game against Humboldt State (39-10). Portland State (38-6) faces Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (31-20) in the other first-round game at Portland State.
Christ College Irvine makes its first appearance in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics District 3 baseball playoffs with a game against The Master’s at 11 a.m. Thursday at Azusa Pacific.
In the second game at 3 p.m. Thursday, Azusa Pacific (28-11), the Golden State Athletic Conference champion, will play Cal Baptist, a 4-1 winner over Southern California College in a wild-card game Monday.
Christ College (28-15) finished in a tie for second with SCC in the Golden State Athletic Conference and received the conference’s second automatic berth on a vote by the district coaches.
