Afghan Guerrilla Leader Quits Exile Government

PESHAWAR, — A Muslim fundamentalist leader said Sunday he had resigned from the Afghan government-in-exile that seeks to topple the Soviet-backed government in Kabul because three guerrilla leaders had put their personal ambitions ahead of resistance goals.
Yunis Khalis, 78, who served as interior minister for police and security, said his Hizb-i-Islami-Khalis party would remain in the government. His group is one of seven major guerrilla groups trying to oust President Najibullah.
