NEW YORK — Longtime trainer Oscar Sosa Barrera Jr. was listed in “extremely critical condition” at a hospital after he collapsed Thursday at Aqueduct Racetrack.
The 62-year-old brother of Hall of Fame trainer Laz Barrera was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in severe respiratory distress after being stricken following the sixth race.
According to Emil Silberman, attending physician at the hospital, Barrera was “in near respiratory arrest” when he arrived. “He is in extremely critical condition,” Silberman said.
