TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico — Advocates of the right to abortion in Chiapas state are urging the state legislature to lift its suspension of a law legalizing abortion on demand, the daily La Jornada said Friday.
“Day by day, abortion is a necessary reality practiced by thousands of women worldwide,” the group Women of San Cristobal de las Casas said in a manifesto published last week.
The manifesto expressed concern that lawmakers would never lift the suspension imposed three months ago after the legalization sparked a national controversy.
