Northridge’s No. 2 Softball Pitcher Quits Team Because of Shoulder Injury

Pamela Barr, the Cal State Northridge softball team’s No. 2 pitcher, has quit the team, according to Coach Gary Torgeson.
Plagued by a shoulder injury, Barr had not pitched in the past 14 games. Before she left the team last weekend, Barr had posted a 6-6 record and 2.31 earned-run average.
Barr, a sophomore from Diamond Bar, was forced to sit out last season under the NCAA’s Proposition 48 requirements. According to Torgeson, Barr had stopped attending classes.
Barr becomes the third player to leave the team in the past two weeks, reducing the CSUN roster to 14 players.
A baseball hitting clinic featuring former Cal State Northridge baseball Coach Bob Hiegert and former Northridge standouts Mike Solomon and Perry Husband will be held April 14 at Palmdale High.
Hiegert, Northridge’s athletic director, guided the Matadors to two national championships. Solomon and Husband played on the 1984 national championship team and in the minor leagues with the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins, respectively.
The clinic, for youths ages 13 and older, also will feature instruction from Valley College Coach Chris Johnson and Pierce co-Coach Bob Lofrano.
