Wife in Arranged Marriage Convicted of Killing Husband
BEIJING — A woman in southern China who murdered her husband by poisoning him with pesticide five days after their wedding has been jailed for life, a provincial newspaper reported.
Leng Fazhen, 20, was helped by her lover and a friend to force the poison down her husband’s throat in the middle of the night, the Guizhou Daily said.
A tearful Leng expressed regret and said her parents had forced her to marry, it said. Arranged marriages are common in rural China.
Both Leng and the friend were sentenced to life imprisonment. Leng’s lover was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, the paper said.
