Tandon to Market New Workstation Line

Tandon Corp., a Moorpark personal computer maker, said it will start selling a line of workstations beginning in the second quarter of this year.
Tandon said it would sell the workstations--which are powerful desktop computers, generally for use by engineers and scientists--under an agreement with Solbourne Computer Inc. of Longmont, Colo., which manufactures the machines. Sold under Tandon’s name, the workstations will be priced from $9,000 to several hundred thousand dollars.
Tandon’s desktop workstations will use so-called RISC technology, which allows computers to work more quickly because they use fewer commands. The computers will be compatible with other similar machines made by Sun Microsystems, a prominent workstation maker.
Tandon will unveil the computers this week at a technology fair in Hannover, Germany.
