THUMBS DOWN: Student newspapers on six of the nine University of California campuses this week are running a rare joint editorial. It’s on a subject dear to students’ hearts: fee increases. The papers are opposed. . . . The editorial effort was coordinated by Jennifer Vineyard, above, of Seal Beach, who is opinion editor of UCI’s New University. The editorial was hammered out by phone and fax machine among the campuses. Vineyard said UC Davis editors want a boycott of the fee hike, but even though the editorial mentions that possibility, Davis declined to run it.
