Postwar Plans for the Gulf

Everyone agrees that Saddam Hussein is an evil person doing evil things. The question is, are we going to do evil things in return? Two wrongs don’t make a right.

The U.S. government had the choice for the last 10 years to do a good thing--not to sell military weapons and expertise to Hussein. There was evidence of his cruelty and human-rights violations years ago. In the spring of 1990, the Democrats in Congress expressed concern over the continuing U.S. policy of supplying weapons to Hussein. If the American people continue to elect people such as Ronald Reagan and George Bush who put economic interests above moral values, we arrive in the position we are in today. Now doing a good thing is difficult. The U.S. government made it difficult when it should have been easy years ago.
