News Unions Open to Offer: Striking unions at the Daily News in New York said they were willing to offer about $20 million in concessions to a British media mogul after talks for ending a 4-month-old walkout collapsed. Daily News Publisher James Hoge left the door open for representatives of fellow publisher Robert Maxwell to negotiate with the unions after last-ditch negotiations broke off Thursday over economic and other differences.
