Exiled Kuwaitis in Saudi Arabia are JAMMING THE FEW AVAILABLE SATELLITE TELEPHONE LINES to Kuwait, trying to restore contact with family and friends. The same search is taking place in Kuwait, where many of the people who remained are trying to find out what has become of the estimated 1 million who left, said a Kuwaiti Information Ministry spokesman. With phone service cut by the Iraqis, some citizens had been using satellite telephones--but sparingly to avoid detection of the signals. “We’ve heard that telephone services may be restored within a week,†the spokesman said. “For sure, for sure, you will have a very, very long line trying to make calls.â€
