A contingent of 34 students from the Claremont Colleges competed at the American College Theatre Festival regional finals last week in Sonoma.
“Secret Circus,” written and directed by Pitzer College senior Maria Bernhard, was selected from among 87 entries to compete in the regional finals for original short plays.
Four students performed scenes from Moliere’s “Tartuffe,” which had been staged by the Pomona College department of theater and visiting professor Eileen Kearney. The following students were regional finalists for $1,000 scholarships: Kathy Monohan, Jennifer Anderson, Meredith Mapel, Shira Myrow, Sarah Rudinoff, Kelly Perine, George Weiss and Paul Klees.
The local entrants were awarded certificates of participation, but none was chosen for the national finals in Washington, said Leonard Pronko, theater department chairman.
