Questionable Motives
Zev Yaroslavsky’s plan to cede the 10 Hillgreen Drive properties to Beverly Hills is pretty questionable. This is so even if one ignores the fact that Abe Knobel, a beneficiary of the change to the tune of a couple hundred thousand big ones, is chairman of the task force evaluating the impact of 20th Century-Fox’s plans for the Century City area--and that Yaroslavsky needs the task force’s support to make Fox’s plans happen.
After driving through the streets of the Hillgreen area, one might conclude that somebody is pulling somebody else’s leg! Hillgreen is mere feet away from Pico Boulevard and highly visible. It is also only a minute from the Rancho Park fire station. The city could put up a street sign identifying Hillgreen at Pico. It could put up a simple direction sign (“take next street east. . . .â€). Or it could solve the problem altogether by opening up the cul de sac. These solutions would cost a lot less than what the city will lose by ceding the properties to Beverly Hills.
