Hitler and Art
Concerning “Degenerate Art: The Fate of the Avant-Garde in Nazi Germany,†the exhibition (opening today) at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art: In looking at the examples of “Entartete Kunst†I would be hard pressed to improve upon Hitler’s description of these “works.â€
As one whose livelihood is art, I’ve got news for you. The art one produces is a mirror of the inner person and if you see something that is really ugly or offensive, the chances are that the “artist†is Angst -ridden and contemptuous of middle-class values.
To coexist with offensive art is one thing; to exalt it and toil over it as did the curators of the Museum of “Art†is ludicrous.
