Nation IN BRIEF : ARIZONA : Ex-Navajo Leader Gets 450 Days in Jail

A Navajo District Court judge in Window Rock, Ariz., sentenced former tribal Chairman Peter MacDonald to 450 days in jail for bribery, fraud, conspiracy and ethics violations in the tribe’s purchase of a ranch. MacDonald’s son, Peter (Rocky) MacDonald Jr., was sentenced to 180 days for a single conspiracy conviction. The terms are to be served after jail time imposed in a previous trial involving MacDonald’s misuse of his tribal position.
