Go And Go, winner of the 1990 Belmont Stakes, will miss four to five months of training following the discovery of a leg fracture after a routine gallop Tuesday morning at Santa Anita.
“It is nothing that will threaten his career,” said trainer Wayne Lukas shortly after receiving the X-rays, “but there is a small crack in the fight front cannon bone. They will put a pin in it (this) morning.”
Go And Go, third in his last start in the San Fernando Stakes on Jan. 19, was preparing for the $500,000 Charles H. Strub Stakes for 4-year-olds this Sunday.
Nice Assay, second to Garden Gal in the La Centinela Stakes last month, tries for her first stakes victory in the $75,000-added Santa Ysabel Stakes today as racing resumes. A field of 12 3-year-old fillies was entered for the 1 1/16-mile event.
Nice Assay has never been worse than fourth in nine starts and has a pair of victories. In the La Centinela she missed beating Gardden Gal by a neck.
Today’s Santa Ysabel field in post position order with jockeys: Ragtimer, Rick Faul; Urban Gypsy, Jorge Velasquez; Secret Imperatrice, Corey Nakatani; Apreciada, David Flores; Present Moment, Alex Solis; On Final, Julio Garcia; Boots, Gary Stevens; Island Shuffle, Rafael Meza; Aurora Winners, Jose Santos, Ms. Aerosmith, Chris McCarron, Assombrie, Eddie Delahoussaye and Nice Assay, Laffit Pincay.
