OCC Theater Awarded $375,000 Matching Grant
Orange Coast College has received a $375,000 matching grant from the Harry and Grace Steele Foundation to upgrade the 1,200-seat Robert B. Moore Theatre. The grant must be matched by July 31, 1992.
The first phase of the upgrading, including improved air conditioning, new seats, improved acoustics, new lighting, improved electrical system and access for handicapped, is expected to be completed by June, 1992, for about $1.2 million, a spokesman said.
The second and third phases, estimated to cost another $2.8 million, would involve a new fly loft for the stage, a new enclosed lobby, new ticket offices and remodeled restrooms.
The college has also received $140,000 for the project from an alumnus, Albert Wong, president of AMKLY Systems Inc. in Irvine, and $50,000 from Newport Beach resident Maruja Baldwin.
