COSTA MESA : City OKs Contract for Senior Center
The City Council has approved a $2.3-million contract to build a senior citizen center.
The two-story, 20,127-square-foot building at 695 W. 19th St., will have a meeting and dining area with a kitchen, classrooms, game rooms, a sun room, library and administrative offices. Construction is expected to begin next month.
Because of the current building slump, the project will cost the city about $83,000 less than estimated last May.
“It is a good competitive time for this project,†City Manager Allan L. Roeder told the City Council.
The site was once the home of City Hall and after that the Mardan Center of Educational Therapy.
That building was recently demolished to make way for the senior center.
Camco Construction Co., chosen from 12 bidders for the project, recently completed the $10.5-million Irvine Transportation Center.
The city plans to pay for the center with Community Development Block Grant funds and bonds.
