NEWBURY PARK : Girl, 17, Identified as Car Crash Victim
A Newbury Park High School sophomore was identified Sunday as the victim in a fatal two-car collision on California 126, which occurred only hours after she had played in a school soccer game.
Anne Marie Allard, 17, died soon after a car driven by her boyfriend careened across the two-lane highway east of Piru and was broadsided Saturday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Driver Patrick Maynard, a 20-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, had attended Anne’s soccer game with the Allard family, said her father, Larry Allard. The young couple were driving to Maricopa in Kern County to visit the Marine’s hospitalized grandfather when the accident occurred, her father said.
No charges had been filed Sunday, and the accident remained under investigation, CHP Sgt. Matt DeMarco said.
Maynard’s Toyota Celica was traveling east about 4:20 p.m. when it drifted off the road, DeMarco said. Maynard then apparently swerved back onto the road, lost control and spun into the westbound lane, the sergeant said.
Maynard’s car was then hit on the passenger side by a car driven by William Krick, 30, of Redondo Beach. Krick and his passenger, Willard Krick, 32, of El Segundo, sustained minor injuries and were treated and released at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
Maynard was taken by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia. A hospital spokeswoman said Maynard’s family requested that no information be released about his condition. CHP officials said his injuries appeared to be serious.
