MOORPARK : City to Rebate Tax to Some Homeowners
The city of Moorpark is offering to rebate taxes paid by homeowners for street lighting and city parks if the owners’ incomes are below the county median.
The annual property-tax bills, which must be paid in full before money can be returned, charge about $35 for street lighting and $30 for city parks. Those are the base rates for single-family houses, said Susan Cauldwell, assistant to the city manager.
People who qualify for the rebate must prove that their annual income does not exceed the county median, which ranges from about $30,500 for a single person to $54,500 for an eight-person family.
“The program is only aimed at helping low-income people,†Cauldwell said. “We have people out there that really benefit from the rebate.â€
Rebates may also be requested by property owners who do not meet the criteria but believe another hardship impairs them from paying the taxes, Cauldwell said.
