After missing two weeks with a seriously sprained ankle, Parks has returned to the Vikings just in time to help in their drive to defend their Sunset League title. Parks missed the Vikings’ first two league games, and although he returned for the third, Marina lost to Ocean View, dropping to 1-2 in the league. But in three league victories last week, Parks showed the form that earned him a scholarship to Duke, averaging 36 points and 15 rebounds and making 42 of 52 shots from the field. Parks set the school’s career scoring record during a 31-point performance in Saturday’s 58-43 victory over Fountain Valley, a victory that kept the Vikings within one game of first-place Huntington Beach. Parks now has 1,709 points, surpassing the mark of 1,680 held by Rich Branning.

Other top performers:

John Daugherty, who held Tes Whitlock, the county’s leading scorer (33.9 points per game), to 12 points and scored 12 points of his own in Los Alamitos’ 73-54 victory over Loara.

Jon Grobler, who scored 51 points, tying him with Rich Thomas (Foothill, 1982) for the 12th highest scoring performance in county history in a 92-71 St. Michael’s Prep victory over Heritage Christian.
