COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Rider, Madison Shooting Spree Destroys Desert
J. R. Rider scored 46 points to lead Antelope Valley College to a 134-89 Foothill Conference victory over host Desert on Friday night.
Rider’s total put him in a tie for second place on the school single-game scoring list. Rider might have challenged Mike Adams’ record of 53 points, set in the 1969-70 season, had he not been pulled from the blowout with five minutes remaining.
Rider was 18 of 28 from the field and six of seven from the line, but his scoring effort was not the only landmark performance.
Tony Madison broke his own Antelope Valley single-season three-point basket record. Madison made four three-point shots to push his season total to 109 in 21 games and top his 33-game total of 107 last season. Madison finished with 29 points. Antelope Valley (17-4, 7-1) had its fourth-highest point total in school history.
