HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Johnston Makes Key Save, St. Francis Salvages 1-1 Tie
St. Francis High goalkeeper Justin Johnston stopped a David Moran shot with two minutes remaining in overtime to preserve a 1-1 tie with host Harvard in a San Fernando Valley League soccer match Friday.
Johnston finished with five saves.
Tim Durkin scored on an assist from Chris Miller after 1 1/2 minutes of play to give St. Francis a 1-0 lead. St. Francis (5-5-3, 2-1-1 in league play) threatened again a minute later, but Mark Aguilar’s shot caromed off the left goal post.
Saracen midfielder Dwight Angelini tied the score with a well-placed shot into the lower-left corner of the net from 15 yards at the 25-minute mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Miller made seven saves for Harvard (2-1-1 in league).
In other boys’ matches:
Alemany 6, St. Bernard 3--Keith Allen scored a hat trick, and goalkeeper Carlos Castellanos notched seven saves to lead host Alemany in a high-scoring Mission League match.
Brian Loftus, Jaime Olaveras and Adrian Siano each added a goal for the Indians.
Notre Dame 1, Chaminade 1--Forward Francisco Dongo bumped a head shot over approaching goalkeeper Chris Gunther about 25 minutes into the second half to pull Notre Dame (6-6-3) even in a Mission League match.
Mark Plummer scored on a head shot early in the second half for Chaminade (3-7-4, 0-3-1).
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Alemany 3, St. Bernard 0--Alemany took 28 shots on goal while the Vikings managed only three in a Mission League match. Sandy Bennett, Melody Arvonio and Shannon Sgro each scored as the Indians (8-7-2, 3-1-1) recorded their seventh shutout of the season.
