CAIRO — The U.S. government considers midnight today, Eastern Standard Time, to be the deadline for Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait, the State Department has said.
A department official said last week that the deadline--contained in a U.N. Security Council resolution adopted in November--was set on Eastern Standard Time because it originated at U.N. headquarters in New York. That makes the deadline 9 p.m. PST and in the Persian Gulf region, 8 a.m. Wednesday.
