Alec Rose; Sailed Solo Around the World

Alec Rose, 82, a grocer who sailed solo around the world in a 36-foot yacht during the 1960s. He spent 320 days at sea on his 28,500-mile voyage, accompanied only by a stuffed rabbit named Algy. He returned to Great Britain on July 4, 1968, aboard his ketch, Lively Lady. Rose said he made the trip “because it is something I have always wanted to do since I was a small boy . . . the ultimate test of man and ship, to sail round Cape Horn.” On Friday in Chesham, England of unannounced causes.
