CSUN’s Fields Ranked 10th in 10,000 Meters
Farron Fields of Northridge has been ranked 10th in the nation in the men’s 10,000-meter run for the 1990 season by Track and Field News magazine.
Fields, a 1979 graduate of Granada Hills High who competes unattached, ran a personal best of 28 minutes 45.9 seconds in the 10,000 last season to place 10th in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays.
He also finished 10th in The Athletics Congress Championships at Cerritos College and third in the Olympic Festival in Minneapolis.
Other local athletes who made the top-50 list in their respective events were Kevin Hendrix and Erick McBride of Cal State Northridge in the 200 and 800, respectively, and Vaughan Kastor of West Hills in the 800.
Hendrix, the NCAA Division II champion in the 100, ran 20.87 seconds in the 200, tying him for 43rd on the national list.
McBride, the Division II champion in the 800, ran 1:49.09 in that event, 40th on the U. S. list.
Kastor, a former standout at Chaminade High and Northridge, was 35th on the national list with a 1:49.01 clocking for the Long Beach Track Club.
