Cowboys Place Aikman on Injured Reserve

Dallas Cowboy quarterback Troy Aikman was placed on injured reserve Friday because of the shoulder injury he suffered in last Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Aikman has said he will seek a second opinion regarding surgery to repair his separated right shoulder. He had said Wednesday that he had increased mobility and decreased pain in the joint.
The move by Cowboy Coach Jimmy Johnson will keep Aikman out at least four weeks.
The Cowboys (7-8) are starting Babe Laufenberg Sunday against Atlanta (4-11), when Dallas tries to secure an NFC wild-card berth in the playoffs.
Team physician Robert Vandermeer plans to consult with orthopedic surgeon Frank Jobe, who is expected to remove bone chips from the quarterback’s chronically sore right elbow.
Aikman said if he decides on shoulder surgery Jobe will perform both procedures during the same operation.
