Delay of Bridge Repair Will Increase the Cost
- Share via
We are surprised and puzzled to learn of the possible delay of repairs to Pasadena’s Colorado Street bridge.
This lovely structure, a cherished symbol of our city, is an important linking road between the eastern and western areas of the town. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Civil Engineering Landmark as well.
We know that there is concern for the project’s expenses, at a time when government funding problems are mounting. However, the bulk of the monies for the repairs are monies allocated specifically for bridge repair and replacement, and cannot be used for any other purpose.
Every delay in the start of construction simply adds to its expense. We in California have first-hand experience with this--postponement of freeway building has cost taxpayers many millions of dollars.
We hope that the rehabilitation of this important part of the fabric of our city will be back on track soon, and that construction will begin soon after Jan. 1, as originally planned.
