IRVINE — More than 500 office workers were evacuated Wednesday from a high-rise building after a fire started in the electrical room on the 18th floor.
Nobody was injured during the 3:15 p.m. fire at Tower 17 of the Douglas Plaza, at 18881 Von Karman Ave., Orange County Fire Capt. Dan Young said.
“The evacuation went pretty well,” Young said. “Nobody got hurt, but there were some frayed nerves.”
The fire was confined to the electrical room and was extinguished in about 20 minutes by about 40 firefighters, he said.
No damage estimate was immediately available. The cause of the fire was not immediately known and is under investigation.
