A 27-year-old Santa Paula man was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving Tuesday after the car he was driving crashed and his older brother was killed, authorities said.
Guadalupe Garcia Cantero, 29, of Santa Paula died instantly of head injuries in the crash, according to the Ventura County coroner’s office.
He was riding in the back seat of the 1984 Plymouth Colt driven by his brother, Robert Garcia Cantero, when the accident occurred about 1 a.m., authorities said.
Cantero was driving south on California 150 south of Bridge Road at about 85 m.p.h, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Utter said. The car missed a curve and went off the right side of the road, hitting a parked pickup truck and a van, Utter said. The car then skidded and struck a power pole, he said.
Cantero was arrested and taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. Another passenger, William Lugo, 29, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital and released, the spokeswoman said.
