CHICAGO — The Ravinia Festival will open its 1991 season with a concert version of Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore,” featuring Luciano Pavarotti and Kathleen Battle singing the principal roles, according to festival officials.
The June 21 benefit fund-raiser is being underwritten by United Airlines.
“Luciano Pavarotti scored one of his greatest triumphs in this opera when he sang the role of Nemorino two years ago at the West Berlin Opera,” Ravinia Director Zarin Mehta told a Wednesday news conference.
