Three Plead Guilty in Thrift Fraud Cases: Los Angeles real estate developer William A. Powell pleaded guilty to three felony counts, and Chino Hills accountant James E. Williams pleaded guilty to one felony count in connection with a 1987 scheme by Los Angeles businessman Oliver A. Trigg Jr. to fraudulently purchase a controlling interest in Los Angeles-based Family Savings & Loan. Separately, Los Angeles attorney David R. Altshuler pleaded guilty to two felony counts in connection with a fraudulent deal involving now-defunct Los Angeles-based Brookside Savings & Loan.
