Layoffs at CBS News: CBS News is abolishing about 50 positions in a cost-cutting move. Some of the affected employees will be offered other jobs within the company, while a number have already left, a spokesman said. CBS News, which once employed more than 1,300, now numbers about 1,050. Middle East coverage will push the division about $25 million to $30 million over budget this year. The network this week is undergoing its annual budgeting process for the next fiscal year.
