California IN BRIEF : EUREKA : Logging Protester Jailed, Fined

A San Jose man has been sentenced to four months in jail for jumping on a car driven by Pacific Lumber Co. President John Campbell during an anti-logging demonstration. Richard Robert Serina, 47, was convicted Friday of a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a public thoroughfare. Serina also was fined $1,175 and ordered to pay for any damages to Campbell’s car. Serina testified that he was swept onto the car while trying to protect another demonstrator from being hit during the Aug. 17 protest in Korbel.
