Civilian and military fire units contained a brush fire early Saturday morning that burned 1,500 acres in the Margarita Canyon area near Camp Pendleton, a Marine Corps spokesman said.
More than 30 fire units quickly responded to reports of a fire in a remote area approximately 2 miles from Meadow Creek Deluz housing area Friday afternoon, public affairs spokesman Sgt. Rene Reyna said. Firefighters controlled the blaze around 2 a.m. Saturday. There was no structural damage.
“The fire is well-contained,” he said. “Now it’s a matter of letting it take its course, waiting for it to die out.”
One firefighter suffered a sprained ankle and another received cuts while battling the flames, Reyna said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
